This three to six day tour takes you off into the North West of Vietnam. An area that is mostly unheard of on the tourist scene. This is because there is little tourist infrastructure, almost no English, and roads that are often destroyed by landslides.
North West Vietnam Three to Six Days
Summary
For the adventure seeker, the North West is the best part of Vietnam to be thrown into the local culture and spectacular scenery. There are plenty of driving options in the North West from beautifully paved roads to challenging dirt tracks.
The North West is where most motorbike tour companies base their operations, and there is a good reason for this!
Tour Highlights
- Flexible driving routes from offroad to road. You can choose as you go
- Stunning scenery
- Homestays and culture
- Short enough distances and days with lots of flexibility
Who this tour is for
This tour can be catered to the offroad enthusiast or the casual driver wanting to experience a motorbike for the first time. The route is flexible with so many variants available.
Tour Itinerary
Get our of Hanoi
It should be noted that this tour is flexible with no set itinerary, that is the way we like to travel at Tigit.
Generally, we head to Ta Xua on day one. Ta Xua contains the dinosaur backbone, which can be viewed in this video.
Ta Xua to Mu Cang Chai
The ride from Ta Xua to Mu Cang Chai is a beautiful one. There is a road option and an offroad option.
Stay in Mu Cang Chai
Mu Cang Chai is such a nice place, that I think it is worth spending half a day looking around and enjoying the view points. Up to you though!
Mu Cang Chai to Yen Bai
Heading back toward Hanoi, there are some nice roads between Mu Cang Chai and Yen Bai.
Yen Bai to Hanoi
Not the usual miserable drive in the city. The route we have planned takes you into around 10 minutes of the Tigit office with almost no traffic. Hanoi is a strange city, with many areas left undeveloped.
Tour Map
The map we follow is the dark blue line in the North West of Vietnam.
Tour Prices
I have traveled the world on motorbikes, always on a rental with a well-planned route. I have the flexibility to choose the food I want and the hotel I want, be it cheap or expensive.
When I run into people on motorbike tours, the biggest complaint is spending lots of money and being put into the cheapest hotels and cheapest restaurants. They often complain about missing out on what the country has to offer in terms of quality.
When I travel the North of Vietnam, I struggle with accommodation and food. I do not like hard mattresses, and I also require a Pizza from time to time!
For Hanoi Tours I would like to try a new pricing structure that allows the client to try and buy themselves out of the dorm room style homestays that have existed for years serving budget offroad tour companies.
So here goes!
- Tour Guide per day (has his own bike) – 3,700,000VND
- Motorbike Rental – Choose your motorbike from the Tigit site. Prices are here
- Hotels, food and everything else – paid by the client. Please cover the tour guide’s expenses)

Tigit Guides
Tigit guides are local enduro enthusiasts. English is average at best. Passion lies in driving and motorbikes. A tour is a way to escape the Tigit office and be out there on the roads. Be assured they are enjoying the trip just as much as you are.
Tigit guides are selected based on their motorbike skills, we hope, that they have enough skills to get both themselves and you out of the mud!
